Using my blog for your political campaign?

So Medium why do you think it’s OK to run a campaign on my blog without asking me?

Today I noticed across all Medium blogs the ‘Protect Internet freedom. Defend Net Neutrality. Take Action.’ strip. No one at Medium asked if I would like to promote this cause.

Forget the merits of Net Neutrality — that’s not the issue. The issue is having the editorial integrity of your own blog usurped by people without your knowing.

Medium has recently moved to a charging model. I don’t know if I subscribed then maybe this wouldn’t have appeared. Maybe we will have to consider that or moving back to clunky old Wordpress.

It does go to show how little we control our online world nowadays. I was thinking what if Dropbox, Evernote and iCloud go out of business? What if they are hacked and all our data and work were wiped out?

Medium has decided to use my content to promote their chosen cause without specific permission (I am sure permission is buried in the Ts&Cs somewhere).

How much control do we really have?

Not much it seems.

By the way, I am all for protecting Net Neutrality — whatever that means . .
